Finding the Right Birmingham Baby Photographer (From One Mama to Another)

If you’ve found yourself typing “Birmingham baby photographer” into Google at some ungodly hour while your baby is finally napping — first of all, hi. I see you. And second, I want you to know that search is about so much more than finding someone with a nice camera.

It’s about finding someone who gets it. Someone who understands that this season — the milky breath, the tiny fists, the way your whole heart has been rearranged — is passing faster than you’re ready for. And you want someone in that room who treats it like the sacred thing it is.

What to Actually Look For in a Baby Photographer in Birmingham

There’s no shortage of photographers in the Birmingham area — from Homewood to Hoover, Vestavia to Mountain Brook, you’ll find plenty of options. But here’s what I’d tell my best friend to look for:

A consistent, recognizable style. Look at their full galleries, not just their highlight reel. Is the editing consistent? Does their work feel timeless — the kind of images you’ll still love in 20 years? Light and airy, soft and organic tends to age beautifully. Heavy filters or trendy editing? Not so much.

Experience with babies specifically. Newborns and little ones are a whole different ballgame. It takes patience, a calm energy, and genuine love for the chaos. Ask how they handle a fussy baby or a toddler who refuses to cooperate. The answer will tell you everything.

Someone who makes YOU feel comfortable. You’re going to be in front of the camera too, mama. And if you feel awkward or rushed, it’s going to show. The right photographer will have you laughing and forgetting the camera is even there.

Why I Started Elle Lovelace Photography

Honestly? It started with baby Mac.

In the summer of 2022, we welcomed our little boy, and my whole world rearranged itself. I’d spent years in early childhood special education, pouring my heart into kids every single day — and photography had always been my passion on the side. But the moment I became a mama, something clicked. I felt God calling me to stop doing it halfway and go all in.

So I did.

I built Elle Lovelace Photography on the belief that the connection between a mama and her baby — those fleeting, ordinary, extraordinary moments — deserves to be preserved. Not just documented. Preserved. The kind of images your grandkids will hold in their hands someday and feel something.

My background in education means I actually know how to work with kids. I know how to get a real laugh out of a toddler, how to be patient when the baby won’t cooperate, and how to create a session that feels relaxed and fun instead of stressful. Because the best photos come when everyone forgets the camera is even there.

This isn’t just a business for me. It’s a calling. And I’m so grateful every single day I get to do it.

I specialize in newborn, heirloom milestone, and family sessions throughout the Birmingham area — Homewood, Hoover, Vestavia Hills, Mountain Brook, Decatur, Huntsville, Auburn, Cullman, and beyond. My style is light and airy, organic, and rooted in real moments. No stiff poses. No forced smiles. Just your family, exactly as you are, in the most beautiful light I can find.

When to Book Your Baby’s Session with a Baby Photographer in Birmingham

For newborns, the sweet spot is those first 5-14 days when babies are still sleepy and curly and fresh. I always recommend booking before your due date — ideally in your second trimester — so your spot is held, and you’re not scrambling postpartum.

For milestone sessions — 3 months, 6 months, sitter, cake smash — the earlier you book, the better. Spots fill fast, especially in spring and fall when that golden Birmingham light is absolutely unreal.
